Bauhaus Alberta

Alberta experience a period of prosperity after the Second World War with the discovery of oil at Leduc, Alberta in 1947. This period of growth and development brought a large building effort that can be seen today.

The International Style was the dominant architectural fashion during the mid 20th century. The buildings constructed in urban areas reflect the International Style, which was based on Bauhaus ideas. The International Style features metal interior frames, glass exteriors, and no external adornments. The roofs are usually flat.

Many buildings constructed in Edmonton and Calgary in the years following the discovery of oil at Leduc in 1947 are modeled after the International Style.
