Teachers: you will find the lesson plans we have designed for you in the Sport and Recreation Edukit useful. All of the lessons are designed to meet the new social studies curriculum as developed by Alberta Learning. The learning outcomes are easily identified for kindergarten through grade seven. The lessons will introduce students to the history and recreational enjoyment of beadwork among the plains Aboriginal Peoples. There are several lessons that examine historic games of skill and chance played by Aboriginal children and adults as well as an introduction to life in the bush.

Each lesson plan provides a Teacher Information background section on Aboriginal history and culture. Many lesson plans include downloadable worksheets that can be printed off or transferred to transparencies. The lesson plans are all developed to allow students to be interactive as possible in the learning process. The title of each lesson reflects the learning objective, making it easy for you to sort through and choose what information you would like to share with your students. A Resources section includes a list of books and materials that you may want to use to increase your own understanding, to supplement lesson concepts and materials or for students to follow up on their own. Alberta Education approves many of the resources. Where possible ISBN and order information is included for you to use.
